KOIBIRD founder Belma Gaudio chooses her must-have pieces from the AW20 edit, The Eastern Bloc
Between business meetings, styling shoots, school schedules and dinner reservations at The Araki, KOIBIRD founder Belma Gaudio’s diary is as busy as the Columbia Road Flower Market on a Sunday morning. And, like many with a busy schedule, Belma ensures her wardrobe each season is filled with pieces that can be worn multiple ways, staple and statement, that take her from boardroom to school pick up then dinner, with an added swipe of lip gloss.
Born in former Yugoslavia, The Eastern Bloc edit is one close to Belma’s heart. It was important to curate a collection that showcased the stars of the region; from its 80s-going out dresses that would make Grace Jones proud, to the glam suiting that is anything but Goldman Sachs. Belma talks us through the pieces she’ll be wearing this season, from Anouki’s OTT disco ball suit to a rising British designer. Over to you, Belma…
GET MOUTHY “For those who don’t know me, this is as Belma as it gets. Pink, flamboyant, feminine, strong; a true statement piece. Wearing this to a fashion event is a must, or just a lunch with the girls. The lips remind me of the iconic Prada print paired with a sweet-but-psycho pink dress. No one will put this Baby in the corner.”
VELVET CRUSH “Edward Crutchley is the name to know. This rapidly rising star has consulted for everyone from Louis Vuitton to Kanye West and his fresh prints and beautiful fabrics combine into an artsy, eclectic but also very sophisticated and refined collection. I am going to wear this velvet dress to my Tate Museum meetings this season. It’s comfortable and easy, yet anything but ordinary.”
ALL-IN-ONE “I am a huge fan of jumpsuits... I love that you throw on a one-piece and boom! The whole look is done. For me this strapless style by Matériel Tbilisi is the perfect blend of smart, sexy and cool.”
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER “Disco-ball power suit is basically Hansel, ‘so hot right now’. It’s got the glam factor which will see me through a lot of dress up occasions when I want to make a statement but also be comfortable and cool.”
CRYSTAL CLEAR “This little dress comes closest to my favourite fashion obsession: vintage pink Chanel. So when we saw AREA did a pink tweed mini dress with crystals, it was love at first sight and a lot of wagging tongues. I wear mine with grunge boots.”
