WHaT'S iN OuR PARtY Bag?

The KOIBIRD team dive into the newest bags of the season

There is a certain je ne sais quoi needed to be the perfect party bag, a few essential traits they must all possess. The best of them will have practical elements, a hidden shoulder strap that will suddenly transform a humble clutch into a magnificent shoulder piece, or perhaps it has multiple zip-pockets (protecting all of your essentials whilst you dance till dawn on tabletops), others will elevate multiple outfits needed for the inevitable swelling of Christmas calendars with their colour and texture. But, most of all, they must all look utterly fabulous.

With this in mind, we asked the KOIBIRD team to showcase their favourite new season party bags, and because we’re nosey, we also took a peek inside them too.

Whenever I want to jazz up an outfit, and not make it too serious, this Benedetta Bruzziches' Casper bag is my go to. Often, I think an eveningwear  outfit that is simply pure black and silver glitter is too much - maybe even boring. But this bag is a softer more glamorous glitter, and has multicoloured tones which I like. I would wear it with my Sandra Mansour dress with pink bows. The architectural handle also makes it more like a wearable art piece than a simple accessory.

Inside my bag, I always have my Dr Lipp best lip balm with me, I discovered it while breastfeeding and it literally went from breast to lip! There's my trusty Chanel wallet and my portable charger, and I am also trying out this new CBD hand sanitiser because sometimes even my hands need a little relaxation time...I have a pad (you always need to carry one) from this natural period company called FLO, all of its products are made from 100 per cent natural bamboo and are vegan and cruelty-free. And believe it or not, I always carry around Pokémon cards, I have Pokémon cards coming out of my ears, and right now I have a limited edition Steelix EX card which I will give to my son. Fun Fact: Pokémon is the highest-grossing franchise, more so than Disney and Marvel.

Call me competitive, but there’s something rather satisfying about fitting as much as you can in a teeny-tiny compact space - surely I am not alone in this? (And one look at my bursting wardrobe will confirm this extreme obsession). NUÉ’s bag got me for two reasons, firstly, it has an adjustable belt - I am nothing if not practical - and secondly, although small, it is bling-bling mighty. I am a total magpie, and anything that glitters instantly has my undivided attention.

When it comes to styling, I have no fear. I wear my NUÉ over almost anything, it adds sparkle and texture to velvet trousers (I like to switch it up and wear as a cross-body bag for this), it looks great with slinky slip-dresses (for the day I rough it up with my Balenciaga chunky-tread boots) and it acts as the perfect belt for cinching in oversized tuxedo blazers.

Oh, the essentials. I have a few constants! I always carry; credit card, vape (sorry all, I am indeed one of ‘them’), my trusty travel-sized perfume, and tissues - did I mention I was practical? And a spare pair of earrings when I am being super organised. Top tip: they are the quickest way to change up a look if you have no time to go home and change. Currently, I am favouring Completed Work’s Notsobig scrunch earrings.

As far as I'm concerned, the world is made up of two types of women: those that carry tissues (see above) and the ones who can't even remember tampons. Unfortunately for me (and my white trousers), I'm the latter.

What I lack in fancy pants however, I make up for in choice of bag. At the minute I’m taking my Gedebe wool clutch everywhere – I love its long chain strap, peach satin interior, and the fact I can just about squeeze a book inside. Because I seem to be obsessed with impractically small bags, I had to forgo a purse a long time ago and rarely ever take keys, which explains why my neighbours upstairs are often in a mood with me. In case the day ever comes where Apple Pay fails me, I usually carry a card, as well as a twenty and my trusty £1 coin, which I’m very anal about keeping for the Lidl trolley.

Things you’re guaranteed to never find in my bag: a mirror (isn’t that what the selfie cam is for?), an iPhone charger, or a pair of wireless headphones (but if you’re ever after an odd one, I’m your gal). Things you’re very likely to discover: a book of essays or short stories (my philosophy is the lighter the book the lighter the read), my Olympus point and shoot, one, or if you’re lucky, two Extreme Airwaves, an Ashley Williams hair slide – my version of red lipstick, it’s what I add to doll myself up for unplanned post-work drinks, a rogue ibuprofen, and crumbs. Always unidentified crumbs.
