In many ways, London Fashion Week was back to its old strengths (and by this I do not mean the gale force winds of storms Eunice and Franklin), with 131 designers taking part and physical shows replacing the near all digital line-up of last year, reality never felt - or looked - so good. International buyers and press once more adorned front rows, and London’s elite flocked to evening parties at cult locations such as The Standard Hotel. But, of course for me, the real spectacle was the clothing itself. Here are the five key takeaways and moments from London.
CUT IT OUT
Cut-out and barely there clothing is here to stay, but do not be dismayed! The runways proved that it can be worn by all body types and ages, simply look to ethereal supermodel Maggie Maurer who did not announce her pregnancy via Instagram, she did it on the runway. Maurer revealed her bump with a pale pink shimmering sheer dress created by rising design star Nensi Dajoka.
FEELING SAVVY
It was as they say in fashion 'a moment'. Saville Row's first Black tailor Ozwald Boateng made an explosive return to Fashion Week after a 12 year hiatus, with a show celebrating Black excellence at London’s Savoy Theatre. 100 looks were shown and attendees included Dizzee Rascal, Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba and Stormzy.
PRETTY IN PINK
Highlighter and neon head-to-toe pink is set to be a major colour trend for AW22.
BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM(S)
Victoria Beckham sadly did not grace the fashion week schedule with a show but that did not stop her from being a main highlight. In a surprise appearance, she graced the front row of Supriya Lele with her signature all-in-black presence. It subsequently caused a media frenzy. Later that day, I-D revealed their latest cover star - none other than the Beckham's second eldest child Cruz. A new pink hairdo, gold grill and netted top, Cruz spoke of his ambitions to be a music artist.
WILD WILD WEST
Stateside travel is back - and with it all things Americana. Yeehaw! Cowboy boots, buckles, hats, neck ties and of course, red, white and blue.
