Taiwanese laundrettes and Barbiecore

With so many events still dominating our diaries, you need a dress that will suit all and every occasion. Our new floral Rodarte slip dress can be paired with heels and a chic blazer for that next summer wedding or simply worn on its own with sandals if sitting at a gorgeous beachside cocktail bar. The possibilities are endless.

Cult wellness brand Raye is now opening a new bubblegum pink pop-up in London’s Covent Garden. You’ll find over 100 brands with the majority of products plant-based and sustainable from luxe CBD to health supplements. Plus, the pop-up will be hosting regular workshops and panel discussions with leaders in the world of wellness.

This week we had to highlight Lina Stores (pasta lovers will already know about this Italian haven) because they've opened up a new location…on KOIBIRD’s very own Marylebone Lane. In fact, it's opposite our store! On the ground floor, you’ll discover an all-day restaurant and open kitchen, which transforms into a wine bar at night. We recommend ordering the 30-egg yolk tagliolini with black truffle and the burrata raviolini with datterini tomato and toasted pine nuts.

If last summer was hailed as the months of Goblincore, now, the aesthetic is much brighter…and pinker. Welcome to the new trend of 2022, Barbiecore. We’d like to claim that perhaps we’ve always been Barbiecore, having championed pink from day one, but some credit arguably goes to designer Pierpaolo Piccioli who’s Valentino FW22 PP show displayed 48 looks in his new signature bright pink shade (and caused pink viral mania amongst the fashion community). Right now, hot pink is the most popular colour on the red carpet, and of course, we would be remiss to not point fingers at Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie epic featuring real life Barbie Margot Robbie. Images of Robbie in pink ensembles on set are taking over the internet and our Instagram feeds.

We’ve recently become obsessed with the Instagram account @wantshowasyoung, which follows an elderly Taiwanese couple who run a launderette in Taichung City. Over the years, hundreds of pieces of clothing have piled up neglected and forgotten by customers and after their grandson, Reef Chang, convinced the 80-year-olds to have fun by modelling the abandoned clothes - they’ve become online fashion celebrities with over 640k followers. Cute!

Reality television thrived during the early 2000s, but no series captured the world’s attention quite like the dating show There's Something About Miriam, following Miriam Rivera, a transgender woman. Now, a new podcast Harsh Reality: There's Something About Miriam explores the show's impact on pop culture, the transgender community and its legacy. A riveting but important listen about the high and lows of television, fame, and identity.

This month, our fashion and culture columnist talks about the hottest fashion collaborations this summer including KOIBIRD’s very own with Tombolo. And, as Wimbledon ends, our fashion & content director looks not at the players, but at the serious amount of bling they wore throughout the tournament. Read her feature and shop her Wimbledon-inspired jewellery edit.
