Date dressing is a balancing act. Aesthetically, you of course want to look good, but that in part is dictated by feeling good. So the ultimate rule is this: be brave, push outside of your usual sartorial comfort zone, and show some of your best assets – but not too much. Nothing is more unattractive than constantly pulling down a skirt you feel is that inch too short, or manoeuvring a top you believe that inch too tight.
Now, to my date night look. I always start with my jacket and work my way from there. A good jacket is key and needs to make a statement on arrival as you stride towards your potential significant other – first impressions are everything after all. Rowen Rose’s vegan leather jacket is therefore ideal, I love its 80s power shoulders, plus its bomber shape keeps it from looking too try-hard. Beneath? It has to be our new Christopher Esber top with crystal detailing. Showing a little skin is encouraged on a date and the bling will sparkle in candlelight. I would pair the top with high-waisted jeans or wide-leg trousers to play with proportion.
Trousers, for me, always look chicest when there’s a peeping toe of colour beneath, so these Coperni platform heels are ideal, and, whilst they might make you look tall, or perhaps taller than your counterpart, you can just remind yourself that ‘short king summer’ was a trend, and you’re just keeping that going.
